Rising

I sold this painting yesterday. It's hard to say goodbye to pieces I love, but good to see them go to good homes. I love the contrast of clear cerulean blue and bright, strong yellow.
acrylic on canvas, 24"x18"

I sold this at Spirit & Kitsch the other day. It can be a wrench to sell pieces, especially ones I really like. This one was one of those. It was one I painted late at night, when I was in a really weird mood. I didn't really like it at first, but it grew on me. Dave really liked it -- the contrast between the gentle, clear blue and the bright yellows... I'm really glad he bought it.
That's the mixed thing about being a pro artist. I hate to let things go, but I have to sell things, both to pay rent and to enable myself to make new stuff. I only have so much wall space! It's so much fun to see someone walk up to one of your paintings and say, "Wow! That's just what I've been looking for all my life!" It gives me so much more energy to create!
So, this piece isn't for sale, but if you want to see it, give me a shout, I'm sure Dave would love to have you over for coffee. And all y'all Ithacans, get out to Spirit & Kitsch's new Art Garage -- it's a great place!

I love this one. A lot. It reminds me of Superman, actually, because it kinda looks like skyscrapers to me--you know, the whole leaping-tall-buildings-in-a-single-bound thing. I feel like I'm a little person standing at the base of the building looking up, up, waaaay up.

AE, one day I will get to buy lots of your favorite paintings, and you will come over and enjoy them whenever you want! And I will serve you tea, and we will speak in French; that is, you will speak in French, and I will ask, Comment escon dire . . . ? (or however you spell it)
