Sunrise Songs & Twilight Tales
25 August 2007

We're having a concert. The artists of Spirit & Kitsch will be joining us, preparing art that reflects the music that will be displayed during the reception afterwards.
I will be playing my dear viola, playing Bach's joyful C major 3rd solo cello suite - that's where the "Sunrise Songs" comes from. After spending so long on the d minor 2nd suite, a very contemplative, dark piece, and it's now wonderful to emerge into the light with the 3rd.
Beth Faulstick, a soprano and Ithaca College student, will sing Bach's spring-like "Mein Glaubiges Herze" from the Cantata BMV 68. The bass-line dances along while the singer rejoices!
Finally, Sam Welsh and I will play Schumann's Märchenbilder, Fairy Tale pictures for viola and piano -- alternately creepy, beautiful, magical piece. The last movement is the sweetest, gentlest goodnight wish ever!
We might add a couple little bits - Swedish folk songs or Vivaldi airs - but it's not going to be a huge concert. Just a lovely, short, late August fun concert, celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of a new season of music and art.
